Welcome to my homepage! This site is dedicated to the Basenji and the New Guinea Singing Dog. Though these two breeds are very similar in nature, they are not the dog for everyone and one should be well informed and educated on the breed before choosing one as pets. They are much like living with children, which requires patience, understanding, supervision and much responsibility. A task that should be considered seriously *before* taking on a life-long commitment with them. They are not like the average dog and do not behave like ordinary dogs.

They are Mother Nature's finest work, created thousands of years ago on their own in the wild. The New Guinea Singing Dog dates back to around 6,000 years ago and today is a living fossil from the stone age and is one of the few breeds left today that still exists living in a wild state (though endangered). The Basenji goes as far back as far as 3,000 years ago or more, originally from Central Africa and has been linked to the early Egyptians. Both breeds are extremely intelligent and independent thinkers which should be respected and understood. As for not this way of thinking they would not have survived for all these years on their own. Man did not create these breeds for his work, they evolved by themselves and think for themselves.

This nature of course does not always make for a very obedient dog, which at times can be a downright challenge for owners. For some folks with little patience and understanding of these breeds, this could be disastrous, while for some of us, we love this kind of dog and would not trade them for anything. The responsibility of owning one is big one, but the rewards are far greater in return. For me I cannot imagine life without them. Living with them is a joy.
