About New Guinea Singing Dogs - Brief Profile

For more information on New Guinea Singing Dogs, please visit the
New Guinea Singing Dog Conservation Society

Profile: The New Guinea Singing Dog is an unusual small (20 - 30 pounds) dog of wild origins. A breed who today still lives wild in the New Guinea mountains. When well socialized they are very submissive and gentle toward people and make delightfully entertaining companions. However, they retain their strong wild hunting instincts and are very predatory. Because of their incredible physical agility and intelligence they are escape artists. Adult Singers can be dog-aggressive toward strange dogs, especially of their own sex. Thus, they require owners who admire the Singers' naturalness and independent, self-sufficient personalities and who are prepared to provide them with secure housing, lots of mental stimulation and social interaction.

Adoption Requirements

Requesting to fill out an adoption form is a prerequisite to adopting a NGSD through the New Guinea Singing Dog Conservation Society. The information you provide helps us with placement.

If you are serious about adopting a rescue and you express interest in a particular dog you can expect interviews, reference checks and possibly a home-visit before the adoption is finalized.

If you are not well informed about NGSDs, we encourage you to contact the NGSDCS for NGSD information. This information may enlighten you to the characteristics of the breed and the special security requirements needed to keep a NGSD. It is important that you are fully aware of the responsibilities of owning a NGSD and if this is a breed you can live with.

Finally, please note that the NGSDCS may charge an adoption fee to cover direct and indirect expenses incurred in their rescue program as well as all new owners will be required to sign an adoption agreement upon the transfer of any dog.

For an adoption form, please contact:
